  • "Don't sow your desires in someone else's garden; just cultivate your own as best you can; don't long to be other than what you are, but desire to be thoroughly what you are. Direct your thoughts to being very good at that and to bearing the crosses, little or great, that you will find there. Believe me, this is the most important and least understood point to the spiritual life. We all love according to what is our taste; few people like what is according to their duty or to God’s liking. What is the use of building castles in Spain when we have to live in France?" ~ St. Francis de Sales

The Weekend

Once again, a pictureless post..  but... if I had them you would see:

My dear spouse standing on the step ladder with a measuring tape up against an 11 ft sunflower grinning.  And me taking pictures which I am not sure if they turned out.

There would be knitting of a baby blanket for one of the twins and some sewing on one of Michaels quilt blocks.

Grocery shopping, dropping produce of at St Vincent DePauls,  a beautiful blue swimming pool that it only took all summer to open!

Mass on Sunday and a gorgeously lazy Sunday afternoon.

And some lawn mowing.

This week will consist of more sewing on Michaels quilt (I hope) and knitting, Holy Hour today, freezing produce rather than canning it. (maybe I will take it out of the freezer and can it later but for now, NO) Also Pippin goes to the groomer, a pal and I are going off toward Punxsutawney on a buying trip (roving for me for my spinning wheel)  We will visit Harriet at Autumn House Farms and Ginger at Silverbrook. Oh and practice of our ball room dance with a lesson one night this week.

Blessings to all.

weekending...last weekend and this one too.

I wanted to blog about my weekend last weekend and get up all sorts of pictures.  But that didn't happen.  I have pictures..still on my husbands camera.  Plus, I have not quite got the knack of uploading them myself.  So..I will just write about the weekends and let you know when and where the pictures would have been inserted!

Let's see...Last weekend consisted of gardening.  I would have had a picture of my spouse standing in our garden next to the corn.  You would have seen a weed taller than he is (six feet) and him grinning!  There would have been a picture of the onions laid out on a portion of our pool table and on the floor, pictures of lots of peppers, tomatoes and green beans.

There would have been a picture of the little romper that I finished for Michael.  I might have talked about how humbling it was to make so many mistakes on this project.  It had been five years since I had sewn a garment and I started this pretty cockily.  "ahem"   Yes, no matter how much you "think" you know, it is always good to read the instructions first.

I might have shown you pictures of the baby blankets that I intend to knit for the twin because the yarn came in.

I went to confession....perhaps a picture of a guide for an examination of conscience.

Then, we went to see the "Boom and Blast" display near New Castle.  I would have told you that we sat in traffic on 422 for about an hour because of road construction at the 79 interchange......thus we were late.  We could occasionally see fire works through the trees.  When we finally got there, we had to drive very, very far out into fields to get a parking space.  And then get a ride on a wagon to get to a place where we could see the display.  Then, we had to WALK back carrying stuff.  And we got lost trying to find the field that our  car was parked in.  Yes, that was us....  a couple of 50 somethings walking around in fields looking for our car.  It was a lovely display and here is where I would have posted my husbands pictures.

And that was a week ago.

This past weekend (if I had the asked my spouse to take the photo)  I would show a shot of a baby quilt that got finished at a class on Friday.  Pretty darn cute.  Just minus the borders.  One down and one to go.  The other baby quilt will be the same pattern with different prints and colors.  Michael's quilt is much more complicated  (here would be a good place to show a picture of the pieced blocks that are finished) and I hope to get it done this week.

The guys went to a nature center.  I am sure that there are pictures on my spouses camera from that.  And we watched a video called "Epic".  Also, a little waltzing practiced in the living room.

And that would be it!    Blessings!

knitting

If I were really brave, I would knit this:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/orions-belte---orions-belt
and this:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-blanket-snowflakes---vognteppet-snfnugg

for the twin baby grandsons due in November.  If I were really computer savvy,  there would be better links and pictures!

Blessings!

Oh Nuts!

So, here are 5 of my attempts at nut rolls!  I have made a total of 15...boy am I bushed!!  I am not sure that they have turned out well.  The internet pictures look a little better.   Why am I doing this?  Aside from sheer lunacy, the answer would be because my Rosary makers group is selling nut rolls as a fund raiser at a pancake breakfast.  Truthfully, I wonder whether it would have been better for me to just have donated the money I spent on the ingredients  for rosary supplies!!  LOL!  It also took me some time to get the consistency of the nut filling right.  Consequently, some rolls have more filling that others.  My son tells me that they are good!  Hope they make more money selling them than I spent on supplies!!!!  Walnuts can get very pricey!
